About the Department

Department of Civil Engineering at Sree Sastha Institute of Engineering and Technology, Chembarambakam was started in the year 2002 with an intake of 30 with the approval of AICTE and intake is increased 120 in the year 2009 and also 18 PG in 2007. The department has accredited for 3 years (2009-2012). With in a short period of time, the department has taken the concrete shape in carrying out the academic and non-curricular activities in an effective way.

Head of the Department (HOD) : Dr. B. Hemalatha completed her Bachelor of Engineering in Civil from Bharathiar University. She did her Masters with specialization in Environmental Engineering at Bharathiar University. She is a University Rank Holder in her B.E course. She has been awarded Ph. D by Anna University for thesis entitled "Feasibility studies on the disposal of Industrial Waste with Organic waste by Vermicomposing Technology". She is the recognized supervisor in Anna University, Sathyabama University and Anna University of Technology to guide Ph. D and M.S. (By Research) scholars under the faculty of Civil Engineering. She has published research papers in International Journals and National Journals. She has published more research papers in National and International level conference and seminar/ workshops. She is very much interested and capable in the field of teaching research and administration.

Dr.B.Hemalatha is the Head of the Department and she leads a team of 12 dedicated staff. The department has number of well-equipped laboratories and provides excellent facilities for teaching learning process.

The Civil Engineering department has very good infrastructure facilities with a total investment of
Rs 50,00,000/- on lab equipments alone. The department has well-equipped laboratories like survey lab, strength of materials lab, Fluid Mechanics & Hydraulic machinery lab, soil lab, Concrete & Higway lab, Environmental lab and Advanced Computing & Construction lab
